Hi fellow plumbers.
Could anyone tell me the best way to cut and remove a cast iron soil pipe so that i can replace it with a plastic one.

Hi. Goggles and a 9" grinding disc on a machine. But make sure bits do not go down the drain. Good Luck

Hi,

If you haven't done one before then it will be easier to have some help
ie, two sets of ladders one either side, spare pair of hands really useful.

Start at swan neck and try smashing with a lump hammer or grind sections away, be warned the cast iron is very heavy espeically when your up ladders !(making sure nothing falls in side.)

I have replaced lots this way, usually on my own which beleive me is heavy work and a little dangerous (needs must) make sure no one will be walking around underneath Ie small children. Take your time and be very careful wielding the grinder around. Once you get midway it becomes much easier. Source a suitabe drain connection if your not replacing the whole rest bend. Oh small pieces of iron DO fly out and can kickback the grinder ALL SAFETY no worries:cool: Good luck:D

Don't forget to stuff something down the drain to stop bits of iron going into the drainage system?

my way to do this alone is to get the ladder up higher than the stack and well secured cut thro near base with a 9inch angle grinder doesnt have to get the back slide in ply or cardboard to protect drain fron debris then go back up ladder tie the top section onto the ladder with the rope over the top rung to act as a pulley break with club and lower to the ground repeat this with each section as said it heavey so you dont want it to move far when its broken loose so tie on well
doubt if elf n saftey would necessarily agree with my methods but ive probably done 50 stacks this way im sure fred dibner would approve
