Where do you stick an AAV?

Hi

I am fitting a vanity unit in a new build bathroom. Since the air admittance valve must be above the flood level, does that mean it cannot go within the vanity unit since the sink is mounted on the shelf? Or is it normal to stagger the level of the shelf so it is higher at the cistern?

if your fitting a aav to the waste system(sure your not talking about soil?) just get a trap with one built in

if it went in the vanity unit would it not be lower than the toilet outlet?

No, it would be level with the cistern, but above the outlet. The highest outlet would be the sink overflow, I think! I have searched to see where it can go, but there isn't much info about where to site them. If I have to run it up the wall it is going to look ugly.

i think its 100mm above the sink hole for 50mm dergo.

Sorry to resurrect this one - still considering options! My architect reckons I should site it below the top flood level (ie below level of sink overflow), but above the toilet bowl - on the basis that if anything floods it will come out of the toilet first and not reach the AAV.

Is he right?

used to fit alot but cannot remeber the height, from memory it was usually about a metre above wc conection, not sure why just was!

Just checked CIPHE design guide on stub stacks, the AAV has got to be above the spill over level of the basin i.e. above the rim not the overflow

Yes Id agree with him, if the soil pipe was to block up it would spill out of the wc first. It will be fine just get on with it, sometimes you have to compramise on regs like this.

Try reading the instructions, its better than guessing (unless you guess right of course!!)

in practice yes in theory no as its only the basin your protecting why not use anti vac trap on basin rather than a durgo as said above
