i have a safety question, my landlords (probably not corgi let alone gas safe) plumber reinstalled my ferroli f24 combi boiler after some rebuilding work.

in the process of refitting he managed to damage the blow off valve so it was constantly passing water

his solution (rather than replace the valve) was to cap it off with a plastic speed fit stop end

i suspect he is not gas safe due to the general quality of the reinstall, the above and his quick subject change when asked if he was going to do the landlord gas safety inspection

can someone confirm what i suspect, namely that capping off the blow off valve isn't safe, so i can go back to my landlord who is currently ignoring the matter and get it sorted

thanks
matt

Hi. The pressure relife valve is fitted to protect both user and the appliance from the risk associated with high pressure within system / boiler.

u are right to question this, no is the short answer the pipe should terminate out side in a safe location, the valve is set to open at 3bar & therefore if the pipe is capped off then this could blow the heat exchanger & is very dangerous also if you have questions about whether the installer was gas safe reg then contact gas safe & give them all the details that you can if the installer has capped off the safety pipe gods knows what he could have done with the gas or flue your life could be at risk contact gas safe asap, lets get rid of these cowboys both installers & landlords trying to do things on the cheap
