I am installing an additional radiator in the loft area of a house.

The house uses a gravity feed heating system. I have to take out the heating tank I am going to use the cold feed and vent pipe of the tank for my flow and return of my new rad in the loft.

So I am going to have to pressurise the system with an expannsion vessel can I locate this in the loft as there is a mws .I could use this mws to feed the expansion vessel .

Also what size of vessel do I need for a semi detached standard house with 10 rads

Before doing anything check your boiler has the relevant safety devices to make converting it to a sealed system a safe option. An older gravity fed boiler may well not be suitable for convertion. The best person to confirm this would be a gas registered installer as it may seem simple but could work out being very costly if done incorrectly. You dont mention any addition of a pump either!

+1 with old plumber if your boilers not suitable for pressurised ie no high limit stat you are potentially creating a bomb

I'd deliberately left that out to see who would steal my thunder. But coz its u I wont sulk

I was also going to install a 6.5 meter head pump.

If the boiler is ok is locating vessel in loft ok and what size of vessel.

depends on the water volume off your rads, work that out then you can get a definitive answer,.ps why are you heating your loft, are your xmas decorations cold?

Have my decor up yesterday its for a friend the extra radiator.

not just a expansion vessel needed, pressure relief valve and as previously said, you will need to check the boiler is suitable, some are and some are not. Then you need the filling loop and non returns etc.

Dont see a problem with the expansion vessel being in the loft but you need to size and pressurise it correctly, and remember its the neutral point, good luck mate
