Hi all

As a DIYer, a friend asked me to take a look at the flush on one of her WC cisterns as it had stopped working, but i had not come across this type before and would appreciate some help.

It's an en-suite with a push button flush on the wall next to the WC. This connects to an air tube that goes through the wall to a cistern which is in the utility room.

The air pipe is connected to a plastic, corrugated diaphragm type plunger, which in turn sits in a platic frame across the cistern and rest on top of the siphon unit.

The idea is that when you push the button, the plunger/diaphragm moves out and pushes the siphon unit down, starting the flow.

This has stopped working. The siphon unit works fine when operated by hand, and I have checked the diaphragm/plunger and there is no air escaping there. The air tube seemes sound so I just can't work out the problem.

The plunger/diaphragm does move slightly when the button is pressed but wont appear to move enough to push the siphon unit down.

Any ideas?

Sorry for the long post, but wanted to try and be clear.

Its called a drop valve mate look at screwfix 42562-95 or 43148-95 if its on a close coupled wc best change the donut washer as well, hope that helps.

Have you tried cisconnecting the tube from the button and then blowing down it.

BTW the cistern sounds like it might be a Grohe

Thanks for your reply. Now, I know i'm not great on computers, but why can't I find these items on the Screwfix website using the product codes or the term "drop valve"?

Do you think the whole unit needs replacing?

Thanks nick. Yeah, when you manually push the drop valve down it flushes fine. It's just this pneumatic link from the button to the bellows. Couldn't find any air escaping anywhere on the line - tried blowing through it too, but can't seem to get the bellows to move enough.

Maybe the air line is blocked. Might be easier to replace the air line, bellows and nipple if it's not too expensive. Or i might be hours trying to work out why this is not working!

The parts are here on the Lunn's page: [DLMURL="http://www.lunns.net/cisternspares/"]S.A.Lunn (Specialist Plumbers Merchant) Ltd[/DLMURL]

Items titled "Dal 5443492 flush valve" and then just below that is the air bellows and nipple in the cradle. This links via the pneumatic air line to a wall mounted flush button.

Well upset a few of the members there as they dont like the fast trackers :D I Did go a bit over the top I guess. And I dont think my friend (Admin) at screwfix like me sending her the plumbers song  I thought it would bring a smile to her face returning from holiday

Anyway back to the drop valve Wirquin do a very nice kit which includes the do nut washer and inlet valve, costs a bit but is very good.:D

Wish I new how to post the plumbers song on here but dont want to upset the moderators as they are a good bunch, though its not offensive.

Though my misses gets a bit uptight if I play it on the surround sound :D
