I'm sure this is really really simple but as I'm completely new to this I'd be grateful for some advice.

The other day I pulled off my 1st minor DiY plumbing-related job by replacing a ballcock up in the loft storage tank where the overflow pipe had been dripping. The house is not currently occupied so I then drained the water (not the rads) to prevent freezing pipes. Today I was back and switched the water back on at the mains. Everything works fine, except the upstairs toilet which won't flush. I can't seem to take the top off the cistern to look inside as it's one of those push button chains that are attached to the top. However it clearly hasn't filled up as it feels & sounds the same as when you try to flush immediately after flushing ie before it's started filling again.

What's happened?

does the button not unscrew mate? try spinning it with your fingers

Some of the push button loos you have to carefully prise each button out and underneath there is a screw holding the chrome ring and lid onto the base.

thanks for the tips guys. I'll pop round to the property in next couple of days and give it a go. Debris sounds like a quick clean might do the trick?
