Hi All.

We completed a power flush on a central heating a couple of months ago, so Worcester could take it under their repair scheme. We completed a full power flush, then heated the system up with system cleaner, fully drained the system, and then flushed the system with cold water, radiator by radiator. (Opened a drain off and shut one of the heating pipes off, enabling it to go around the full system before draining).

Now, Worcester have come to the boiler and said we had failed to flush the heat exchanger, and i was not aware this could really be done? The boiler is a Worcester RI (one of the non condensing boilers)

If someone could get back to me, as we are there in the morning to try and clean the heat exchanger. As said previous, its had a chemical in for around 2 hours and was on maximum setting on the heat output on the boiler control.

Many Thanks

did you do a powerflush or just a chemical flush? or did you take off each rad and clean it?
what powerflush machine did you use?

using a powerflush machine should clean heat exchanger aswell. You could remove heat exchanger from boiler and manually flush or take the whole boiler off the wall and flush with a hose

Its a worcester 440 floor standing.

Problem is, Worcester said its the hot water side of things. Hot pressure is very very low, so my thinking is somethings blocked, and worcester don't want to foot the bill?

hmmm....do you live in an hard water area? sounds like the heat exchanger is scaled up. You have 2 options...1) descale the heat exchanger or 2) replace the heat exchanger.
what's the water pressure like in your area? and have you checked for pipe defects?

Cold water pressure is very good. It's under Worcester service scheme, but they are blaming us for not fully flushing the system, despite its apparent that its a fault within the boiler.

Its a soft water area, and don't have any problems of scaling, and can't see any pipes damaged or any vavles tweeked down.

The customer has phoned Worcester again, and have told the customer to phone us if he says it our fault again :)

hi Marsendean

Did you get it sorted would be interested to hear the outcome.Worcester say you should have flushed the heat exchanger but Worcester say it isn`t advisable to flush through a boiler using a pump adapter they reccomend disconnecting the boiler and taking it out of the loop. You can`t win whatever you do!! it would be interesting to hear your feedback.

We have heard nothing back at this moment in time, but it's interesting to know that Worcester want you to remove the boiler when powerflushing!!!

I'll keep you updated if i hear anything back!

Hello, I am seeking some advice, I have a POTTERTON PROMAX 28 COMBI Boiler and I noticed yesterday that the water around the house is no longer warming up. The heat exchanger has been changed 6 months ago, so I do not believe it is that. Does anyone have any ideas on what it could be? Thanks

Ideal Logic 24, Previous problem was that the hot water was only cold or barely warm if the heating was in use. If heating was off and boiler cold then would get hot water most of the time. Changing the flow cartridge about 2 years ago (when I moved in) solved this problem enough to suffer it as...
