Hi guys,
xyxwave.gif
am hoping someone will be able to help me out here as to the cause of my problem...

I have a Saunier Duval Combi Boiler located in the loft to which is attached a wired Drayton Digistat 3 Thermostat climate controller located in the hallway near the front door!

My problem is that I have set all of the programmed times and temperature settings on the Digistat 3 as follows...

Mon-Fri (1-5)
1 ON 6:30am Temp 20°
2 OFF 8:30am Temp _ _ (I don't want the heating on at all in the house)
3 ON 16:30 Temp 20°
4 OFF 22:30 Temp _ _ (Night Setting and again I don't want the heating on at all in the house overnight)

The issue I am having here is that on Settings 1 & 3 I see the flame indicator on the Thermostat panel which tells me that the heating has fired up and I concur that the Rads are hot! However when on settings 2 & 4 the flame indicator is not present but the Rads are still on and Hot!!! Why?

I am getting really concerned that my Gas bill is going to become astronomical if this continues and my other half and I find it hard to sleep when the room temperatures are too warm!! Basically it's like our heating is on 24 hours a day even though I am requesting it not to be via the Digistat 3 climate controller panel.

Any ideas guys what might be going on here?

This is by the way a house we've only moved into 6 weeks ago......

Many Thanks

Modern Digital Programmable Stats do not have an OFF setting. You turn the heating off by setting a very low temperature, e.g 5°C. This means that, normally, the heating is OFF, but will come ON automatically if the internal temperature drops a lot with the possibility of freezing.

Set nos 2 and 3 to 5°C and you should have no problems.

Many thanks for your reply doitmyself...

I concur that there is a minimum of 5°c Temp on the programme settings.. Hitting the minus button once 5°c has been reached blanks the temp out to nothing or "_ _" I will try your recommended settings later today when I get home, although I presume you meant no's 2 & 4 instead of 2 & 3..??

Last night for example I woke up at 3am and went and had a look at the thermostat reading where it displayed the 'half moon' Night setting (4) as being active with no flame indicator but the temp was 17° c... The Missus and I thought it was the middle of the summer!!

I have also noticed in the User guide for the Drayton DigiStat 3 that next to the default factory setting for the night setting (7°c) it states that this will be set to 16°c if the selector PIN is removed, see installation instructions...!! What is this 'Selector PIN' and could this be causing my high temps of a night???

Thanks

The Selector pin is on the back of the control unit. The purpose of restricting the lowest temperature to 16°c is to prevent the elderly lowering the temperature to much and increasing the possibility of hypothermia.

If the pin is missing, you should be able to get one free by contacting Drayton

I will take the control unit off the wall when I get home later and look for the Selector PIN's presence on the back... I hope it's clearly marked? If it's not there then this would explain why it's still 16/17 °c of a night and possibly therefore during the day while we are not at home...

Do the elderly really have the money to run their Gas Central Heating at a minimum of 16 °c 24hrs a day!!!??

Thanks doitmyself, appreciate the help....

There is some evidence that it is cheaper to do this than to allow the heating to go off, so the temperature drops right down, possibly to near freezing.

Hello, I am seeking some advice, I have a POTTERTON PROMAX 28 COMBI Boiler and I noticed yesterday that the water around the house is no longer warming up. The heat exchanger has been changed 6 months ago, so I do not believe it is that. Does anyone have any ideas on what it could be? Thanks

We are from Alberta, and I own an electrical company. I have been asked by a BC Mechanical P. Eng. to install an emergency STOP button at the man-door to the boiler room. It's intent is to 'halt' the operation of the boilers in the room should there be an emergency. He is demanding that I do...

Ideal Logic 24, Previous problem was that the hot water was only cold or barely warm if the heating was in use. If heating was off and boiler cold then would get hot water most of the time. Changing the flow cartridge about 2 years ago (when I moved in) solved this problem enough to suffer it as...

Every two weeks or so I have to go and top up the system because the hot taps are running cold. Boiler display is flashing 0.6 bar and I fill up to 1.3. I've had an engineer look inside the boiler and he can't see anything wrong. I've checked the pipes all over the house and cannot see any...
