Hi,

I have a a shower/mier tap set which I bought from Homebase and had fitted by a plumber about 2 years ago ([DLMURL="http://www.homebase.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Browse?storeId=20001&langId=-1&c_1=1%7Ccategory_root%7CBathroom%7C9576969&c_2=2|cat_9576969|Bathroom+taps+and+mixers|9579980"]Chrome Victorian Bath/Shower Mixer [/DLMURL]> on their website).

The hot water tap is running very slowly, almost a dribble. Other hot taps in my house are running OK, so I assume it is the tap and not the boiler pressure.

I think the problem is with the washer (?) can someone please verify this and explain how to change a washer.

Thanks

isolate the water
remove the white centre cap on tap
under that willbe a crosshead screw which then removes the crosshead handl.
remove the chrome shroud.then with a adjustable spanner you can remove the brass insert to which the tap washer is attatched.

Thanks for your reply.

I can complete the first 3 steps - not sure about step 4.
"...then with a adjustable spanner you can remove the brass insert to which the tap washer is attatched".....

The brass insert only twists back and forth as much as the tap would turn originally and then stops. Do I have to apply a lot of pressure to turn and remove it completely with the spanner? It has fine grooves all around it which are in danger of being damaged if I squeeze too tightly with the spanner.

Thanks for your patience, but you are dealing with a keen novice. I look forward to your reply.

there should be a hexagon on the insert that you put your adjustable spanner on without damaging the shroud thread.

Please could you look at the 2 pics I took, if you have the time and advise me from there.

Thanks

pic 2 the chrome shroud needs to come off. they can be a bugger to free and be careful as you can damage them or crush them.

I have a plumber coming tomorrow to change a cartridge on a badly dripping tap on my bathroom mixer unit. There is no separate isolating valve for this tap so I'll have to close the stopcock. I tried closing it today but it won't go absolutely 100% closed and there is still a very slight flow...

Hi, Can anyone advise as to why the cold water to my bathroom keeps airlocking? This originally happened about 12 months ago and has happened 3-4 times since. It’s an upstairs bathroom, fed from a tank in the attic. The tank is about 8 Meters away and feeds a bath, sink and toilet. The tank...

The fittings below are for a mixer bar attached to a self contained shower. i.e not a wall. The attaching screws have snapped. I could get two new brackets, dismantle that existing one and start again or I could try and re attach via those screws, removing the broken ones from the plate and wall...
