i finished my tech cert over a year ago now (i finished first in the class) and i took the occasional day off colledge to work for a plumber who in october 2008 took me on permanantly and wouldve allowed me to attend colledge this year to do a level 3 but 3 weeks ago he broke the news that he had to let me go ! ive phoned over 30 plumbers looking for work and had responses from dont call me again to get another job ! 2 asked me to lists of what i can on the job but havnt got back to me with any work. im at my wits end and peoples views vary so much from qualifications dont matter to u need your nvq's. is it worth me doing a doing a level 3 or bpec or shall i just take a job as a mate and sit my acs first as last ? your opinions/advice please !

I do feel for you mate. How old are you and where are you based?

If I was you I would suggest you go self employed, business cards in B&Q etc bathrooms kitchens etc, then do your gas (only a few weeks training) get registered and away you go.

Things can only get better from recession.
