Vent offset on open vented cylinder

Hello everybody. Could somebody please tell me why it is necessary to offset the vent pipe by 450mm directly off the top of an open vented cylinder. Iv heard its to "prevent one pipe circulation" what exactly does that mean? Thank you.

Well as soon as the hot pipe leaves the top of the cylinder you have to elbow it you can't run the pipe straight up from the cylinder to loft.

Because heat rises. Heat will travel upwards then get cold then more heat will rise then get cold then more heat will rise then get cold then more heat will rise then get cold then more heat will rise then get cold......

isnt it something to do with air also, prevents air locks.

parasitic circulation means you get hot water in the pipe the water that is in contact with the pipe walls cools and becomes denser to starts to drop back down the hoter water in the center of the pipe rises and you now have a perfect gravity circuit running in one pipe
actually once youve put it in words you wonder why weve been fitting two uipes to gravity cylinders for ?
