Hi all just a quick question. Can i use a diamond drill bit in my regular Dewalt corded power drill or do i HAVE to buy a specialised core drill? The hole i'm drilling will be 38mm diameter.
Thanks

I'd have thought it would be okay. I bought one the other day (at least I think it was a diamond core bit!) It has four teeth at the end and slots up the shaft. I was told to use it only on normal spinning as opposed to the hammer setting as the hammer action will destroy the bit.

To make my hole I started with my battery drill and the hard work was done with a heavy duty chisel type drill. Took me ages but at least it was quite a round hole and all my equipment is still useable.

Please excuse my amateur response, but I'm better at sticking pipes together than making holes!

You need a drill with a clutch. If the bit jams and you haven't got a clutch you will break your wrist.

as mike says. safety first. broken wrists cost money.

also you will be shortening the life of whichever drill you use if it dosnt have a clutch

count on a drill a hole!

I agree about having a drill with a clutch. I have an ancient wolf drill that I still use for coring with no clutch and sometimes there are advantages to being the size of a silverback, mind you its great fun watching the loveslave trying to use it when on a ladder.
