Hi,

sorry another question, im replacing my cold water tank and was wondering if there are any reasons not to switch the upstairs cold water taps to mains water rather than an indirect tank feed. The cold water tank feeds 2 taps and a shower. I have a mains pipe very close so would not be a big job. Any advice much appreciated!

Thanks

Marc

The thermostatic balance on the shower would be upset by mains pressure cold water. Outlet from new tank to shower needs to be lower than outlet to DHW cylinder to protect against scalding.

Pointless though if he's keeping tank for the shower

it does also supply shower which just has a manual tap mixer . this should work with mains pressure though?

No. Because your hot water is coming from a gravity fed system you'll have unbalanced hot and cold feeds which you really, really won't be happy with.

It's unlikely as you'd struggle to balance it

Agreed, it'll cost you far more botching it than it would to get the job done properly.

Good idea to feed basin cold tap of mains, would leave bath and shower off roof tank.

Ideal Logic 24, Previous problem was that the hot water was only cold or barely warm if the heating was in use. If heating was off and boiler cold then would get hot water most of the time. Changing the flow cartridge about 2 years ago (when I moved in) solved this problem enough to suffer it as...

Our kitchen mixer tap has started dripping. Like so much of the plumbing in our almost new build bungalow, it is lacking! The plumber didn't install any isolating cocks in the H&C feed to the tap so how can I identify which of the valves is passing? Shut the whole H&C water system down?
