Hi,

I need to plumb speedfit pipes around some metal joists without drilling into them. Should i protect the plastic pipe with something to prevent it rubbing on the metal joists?

Also, what would you recomend to attach/clip the pipe?

Thanks,

Colin

In similar situations I've sleeved pipes with MDPE water main. Don't pass above RSJs on new build where gap is less than 25mm. That gap is there to allow for shrinkage of adjacent timber joists.

What would you use to clip them?

Are we talking about floor joists or wall joists

If floor do as above or you can get speedfit inside blue or red conduit

If wall 25mm/20mm grommets and insulate Pipework

Cheers Shaun. It will be floor level (actually in the bilge of a boat) but needs to hang (cant rest on the floor), and i dont really want to drill the steel joists to put in grommets. Hoping for something i can tie round joists. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Colin.

Can you run it in flexi conduit? Or pre lag the pipework? Then use conduit girder clips, like the ones below. Then run a cable tie through the hole.

Is the plastic the pipe is made from suitable for that environment?

Just asking ?

Curiosity !!
Is that why you're hanging them ?

No, its a narrowboat - makes putting in the pipes really tight!

If the joists are like RSJ's you can get knock on pipe clips

Indeed, for 15mm Speedfit pipe these should do it with a squeeze...

it won't snap but it may rub in expansion, it would be better with clips which are designed to allow for expansion.
