Hi i need help for the senario 1 . complete cold water system

The idea is that you complete the scenario by trial and error; lets think about this in the loft we have 4 items
1. Expansion tank float valve
2. Float valve isolation valve
3. C.W.S.T float valve
4. C.W.S.T float isolation valve
COMPLETE
Next Family Bathroom 6 items
1. Bath cold tap
2. Bath cold tap isolation valve
3. Basin cold tap
4. Basin tap isolation valve
5. Toilet cistern float valve
6. Toilet float isolation valve
COMPLETE
Cloak Room 4 items
1. Basin cold tap
2. Basin cold tap isolation valve
3. Toilet cistern float valve
4. Toilet float isolation valve
COMPLETE
Kitchen
1. Sink cold tap 5items
2. Sink cold tap isolation valve
3. Washing machine cold valve (blue)
4. Main stopcock
5. Drain cock

COMPLETE
So all you have to do is click on an item above and click inspect that's it
Well I trust this helps you complete the scenario, if it does you will get a congratulations message, at this screen you will see a completion code, note this code and enter it on this site to receive the code for the next scenario
Good Luck

First you should have completed setting and checking temperatures of all hot water taps.
Now for the hot water system check, so we need too now click on and click inspect 18 separate items, you have been told 2 in loft, have a think it. What 2 items are part of your domestic Hot water system?
ANSWER
The float valve and isolation valve for the cold-water storage cistern, (this feeds the hot water cylinder)
FAMILY BATHROOM
So we have 4, 2 x hot taps and 2 x hot tap isolation valves.
AIRING CUPBOARD
We have 5 items in this compartment, remember we are doing the domestic hot system not the boiler/heating system so gate valve, immersion heater, 3 port valve, cylinder stat and cylinder drain cock.
CLOAKROOM
We only have 2 in this room 1 x hot tap, 1 x hot tap isolation valve,
KITCHEN
Here we have the last 5, instant water heater and it's isolation valve, hot tap and it's isolation valve and the last item washing machine valve.
So now the task is complete.
END SCENARIO

i emailed the tutor's and this is what i got.
stu

have you tried the washing machine?? do a cold water system check too. thats how i found this one out.

Hi Whitenoise, I started my plumbing course 11 Months ago just completed assignment for module 9, I was struggling a little with making notes, I know that the best thing to do is make keypoint notes in the learning log, only thing is that the difficulty I am having is working out what will be important information for the exam. Since you must have complete the course by now please let me know what I can expect at the training and assessment centre also when you were revising for your exams, did you get any revision note handouts from the training and assessment centre. I hope I hear from you soon.

Hi Jamie

I am nearing completion of part 1 but am finding it a little difficult because although the T4TS books are good and have lots of activities and progress checks to measure knowledge they dont point out out whats going to appear in the exam and what we need to know so when making notes its difficult to make them key pointers to revise when go back through the modules to revise I have been reading and working through activities and progress checks but I know that more needs to be done if I want to get through part 1 of the course please let me know what you did when you were preparing for part 1's exam.

Kams82

When you say part 1 what exactly do you mean - is it partical session 1 or module 1 - I personnally found the Learn a trade cd particulary good but it is ÂŁ15, also had the smart screen online assessment which you can get the details from a tutor at ATL on and also used the Heimen Revision book from amazon for ÂŁ14 as this is small amounts of detail on each exam but tells you exactly what you need to know. If you need any further links or advice contact me and I will send them to you - Good Luck.

Jamie

Hi jamie

Sorry about missing that bit of detail, I have almost finished part 1 in relation to the modules I have just recently submitted my assignment for module 9, and am waiting for the code to get on to module 10. As I was saying in my previous post the T4TS books although good dont point out in a clear manner what exactly needs to be known for the exams. Also if the Heinemann Revision Guide has what I am look for I will get it with hopes that It will help me to make good notes for the exam. Please let me know where I can get ahold of the Learn a trade CD, I suppose smart screen assessment will only be given to me when I get to ATL's training centre. I have already asked a tutor at T4TS for what is covered in the exam hopefully what they provided will assist me in preparing for the exam.

Hi,
I am 39 years of age and have recently been made redundant.
I now see this as an opportunity to embark on a new career in plumbing and heating. I have previously worked in the plumbing industry and have knowledge and experience in the duties of running pipework, boiler installations, full central heating installations, servicing of boilers, fault finding and repairs and general jobbing duties. I also have experience running screwed and barrelled pipework on an industrial level.
I am starting the city and guilds 6129 basic plumbing level 2 course at Midkent college in September and i intend to run the NVQ 6089 alongside this providing i can find employment within the industry.
I am honest, hardworking, trustworthy and reliable, and willing to learn. I have my own tools and a clean driving license and my own vehicle.
I am looking to learn and gain knowledge from an experienced plumber/heating engineer.
If you or anyone you know could utilise me and my skills i would be extremely grateful of the opportunity to learn and train with you.
I live in the Sevenoaks area of Kent, and am able to travel into London.
Also any tips, addresses, contacts or advice would be greatly received.
Thanks Chris Morris.

Kams try this thought it had gone through yesterday but obviously not:

Learnatrade.co.uk

You pay for the cd by paypal etc has 12 modules and approx 2200 questions - got me through everything

Hi Jamie

Thanks for the link, Do I need to go for the 1st one on the list?

Kams.

This one Kams but it needs to be verified on web each time you use it, so if you take it to revise and are staying in travelodge etc you will need wifi

Level%202%20thumb.jpg
The 'All New' Plumbing Level 2 Revision
In response to the extra questions added by City & Guilds last year, there are now over 1500 questions covering 12

Thanks Jamie Will get it A SAP and hope I pass my exams. When you went for your training did you need to pay for the training and accommodation? I have been told by T4TS that it is all paid for through the fees I am paying back.

Have you completed your NVQ/level 2 plumbing course. If yes, how did you find it. I know that you have to be experience to get a job as plumber. How long did it take you to complete the training and at the end what did you get. I have just completed Module 12. Please provide some suggestion. Regards

Hi Padam

I have recently submitted assignment 9 and am waiting to get codes to move on to assignment 10. What I find difficult is balancing the course when I get a job. When I am not working I get through the course no problem, when I am offered a job then it's a little difficult, but still finding work in plumbing shouldn't be difficult if you have family or friends who work as plumbers that is a good place to start gaining experience once you are confident you can then work for yourself. Another idea I have is if you know people that have problems around there house with plumbing you can opt to try fixing their problem if they know you do a good job that's where word of mouth comes in and they can recommend you for potential jobs that they may know about in there social circle.

please pass this on beware of train4trade skills its great while you are studying at home which cost them nothing, but trying to get a practical is impossible i just keep getting fobbed off been trying from august2011 and my practical for 1st 2weeks is april 2012,so i am trying to finish with course.everything the salesman said is bull**** please be wary and pass this on to anyone looking to waste 6grand.

Hey I think the person whom you dealt with may not know anything, When I done my practical for week 1 it was in september but I later delayed it until October anyway, when I got in touch with t4ts about my practical for week 1 they told me that If I wanted to get the practicals out of the way quickly Hartlebury is the centre to go to because they have bookings all the time. When I booked week one I asked about availability at a centre near me theyre response was if I wanted to go luton then I wont get a date till December anyways I done week in october and completed week 2 weeks ago. In week 1 all you do is soldering and make stuff out of diagrams that they give you. Week 2 is the same but the difference is you make diagrams that are going to be for hot and cold water copper pipes. Week 2 you also get a task for guttering and last but not least you also need to do write ups for the tasks. Also I would say that luton is the better centre because its near the train station and students generally get more help when they ask also they have 2 tutors. Hartlebury is a good centre too but because of the location its half an hour from the trainstation by walk.

Don't know anything about that. But I think Tamz is spot on esp on plan B.

Reading about Water Regs I think on Mod 5. So bought Water Regulations Guide, Hot and Cold Water Supply, Hienneman Plumbing level 2, Hienneman Revision Guide, Hienneman Dictionary, Building Regulations download, HASAWA 1974 countless free incomplete downloads, do Pegler website tests, internet research, forums. I have the opinion rightly or wrongly someone might throw a spanner in the works or change an exam so at the very least I should be able to answer in part. I imagine they are multiple choice which is easier.

multiple choice give you a chance to guess but they are actually good way of testing knowledge. people cannot guess all the answers right and over 40/50 questions it gives a true reflection of knowledge

Fuzzy

I am surprised you think of multiple choice questions as a good way of assessing knowledge - if I wanted to know your knowledge I would probably choose to observe you performing in a situated activity, to assess your knowledge.

However, if I wished to know about your understanding of a particular type of knowledge such as that which may be communicated in language, then I would ask you questions that relate to your performance in order to gain a better understanding of what you know, that relates to your performance in the context of the job.

But testing knowledge which may be communicated (codified or propositional knowledge) can be done through verbal, written or multiple choice question routes. The latter multiple choice question route is highly suspect, and has been questioned through educational literature (psychology related journals) for some time. The arguments against multi-choice is that they fail to test comprehension, problem-solving, analytical skill, and understanding (arguably, one can't really understand something in theory, that has not been experienced in reality). The knowledge that multi-choice does test, is memory, which amount to over 80% of the questions in many cases. Therefore the knowledge that can be tested is usually furnished with isolated facts (e.g. at which temperature is water at maximum denisty) and not difficult concepts.

It is not impossible to test for comprehension, problem-solving and analytical skills through multi-choice, but difficult concepts, lead to complicated questions, where the meaning of the question becomes misunderstood.

In addition there is evidence of multiple choice questions leading to flawed types of teaching, where what is tested, is most taught, but arguably the Gola system claims to have responded to this problem.

I would argue that multi-choice is down to convenience and the simplistic sales of education and training products.

theres no denying that multi choice is convenient but at lower levels of education i think it is a suitable measurement of knowledge. i also agree on the understanding bit as multi choice gives no opportunity to explain but good questioning from an on line bank of questions should go some way to covering this.

you say you would want to witness me but that may only test skills, many skillful DIY people out there who can bend and fit pipe very well. But i have seen myself how these people come unstuck when having to think for theirselves.

new qualifications have units which are either knowledge (multi choice), skills (practical) or combined (both). Most units in the new schemes are combined, ie you will not gain the unit unles you satisfy criteria in both. For trades i think this is suitable balance of assessment. In psychology or other academic subjects this may not be the case

Fuzzy, what you say makes sense and it is the way it is. I am also sorry for the 'psychology' reference, which was a bit misleading - what I meant was that, if you wish to read more on multiple choice questions, then this subject matter is located in 'psychology' journals, which can be searched on google scholar. When we talk of 'cognitive' skills, this is associated with the mind and psychology - multiple choice questions claim to test cognitive skills, which might be made up of comprehension, analytical, problem solving skills - they are in the mind, hence psychological.

However observing performance does not only test skills, it tests 'skilled behaviour' (competence). I can observe your work process knowledge (what comes first, second, third), I can observe your knowledge of systems, and practical skill and I can infer competence through your demonstration of know-how to produce a product that is fit for purpose, and meets an occupational standard - I can do this without saying a word to you. I can also observe attitudinal aspects of competence such as workmanship, attention to detail, customer relations, peer relations, environmental awareness, abilities to co-ordinate and organise, to check and work safely.

As for the DIY analogy, this is good, and prompts the assertion that assessing for competence requires sustained observations in multiple contexts, and relationships if we are really talking about qualifications testing 'occupational competence'. This is often not the case.

With the new qualifications I would like to know more, if possible. Regarding the combined units, is this a practical assessment with 'verbal' knowledge testing in situation? or do the candidates do the performance practical, and then combine the knowledge unit they have already achieved through classroom activities. The combination units are a mystery to me.

I answered all the questions in the Certification Skills Health and Safety teaching manual that comes with a test CD, but because of the number of people at the re-training centre I had all pages photocopied and did the whole lot and got about about half a dozen wrong in total.

I had to do so many hours training which I would re-phrase as doing loads of tests from the book or from the CD.

I passed the test at a mobile centre and received my basic CSCS card sometime later.

I had an interview for a plumbing course which included a 100 multiple choice question maths test and was given a calculator.

There was three questions on area and it gave the formula Pi/r/squared;

1. The area of a rectangle, which at the time I did not know how to do with pen and paper, always been bad at maths, but it's easy on a calculator. Answer was one of those given.

2. The area of a circle, but did not understand the formula (at that time). The diameter was 1m (I think) so allowing for corners you loose about a quater if it was 1m square to 1m diameter circle. 2 answers way too low and 2 were 7000 odd square cm's, 10,000 in 1 square metre. So took a guess.

3. Add both areas together, but the answer I had did not match any of the answers available, I knew the rectangle was correct but wasn't sure of the circle, so changed it for the other one and added them together. This matched one of the possible answers.

The interviewer had to pop out for a bit and I did not know he had the answers in his file and did not sneak a look.
He checked them when came back and said I had got all 100 correct and asked if I had looked, "No".

If I had to think for myself I would have got 2 wrong and if I didn't have a calculator it would have been all three.
There were other questions where I was able to use logic or a calculator to answer, and should not haved scored as highly.

Hi
I am going for week1 and 2 in April and was wondering if you could tell me what sort of things to expect...thanks.

I had a salesman from T4T skills (Steve Torbini) around my house last week, he definitely sells it well, but after looking around on this thread and others there is no chance i'm going to sign up for the course. Thanks for sharing your're experiences, sounds like it's saved me and many others from getting ripped off.

im doing my first 2 week commencing 6th feb im so excited i cant wait i will keep u updated with facilities

Hi All,
I am trying to book practicals but getting told that i need to pass a Health & Safety test (online) that became a live requirement on / around 25th November.
There are a few peeps on the electricians forum that like me are struggling to pass. Have anyone on the plumbers course had an issue?
Thanks, Andy

The H&S test is the biggest crock of rubbish T4Ts have produced to date. The 'test' from what I can see is pretty impossible as it is poorly worded, grammatically incorrect & contain severely ambiguous answers. When you fail it,you do not get told by how many nor which questions you got wrong. Fail it four times & they send you a paper version, I submitted mine today so we will have to wait & see if it is any better!

Just bumping this to bring all contributors to the attention of all the threads we have on our forums about Train 4 Trade Skills.

There have been A LOT of people who feel they have been missold courses by Train 4 Trade Skills. Many taking legal action.

Am i right in saying that you cant actually get your NVQ2 through them though and its just your technical certificate you gain when you pass their course? Do you not have to arrange your on-site assessments yourself to gain your full NVQ2?
