I've recently went out on my own 4 months now and bank balance hasn't looked as good in a long while...
Any way a job came up with the NHS as a plumber so I applied for it and believe it or not I got the job as a NHS plumber and I start in December.. also I'm wanting to keep up my gas and oil work as a side line but through the books but not sure how this would work?

I've gathered it's not really plumbing as such but it's a secure job with pension and the possibilities of climbing the career ladder?

My other half isn't happy cause I could earn double than what the NHS is offering but jobs like this are like hens teeth. 37.5 hours a week from 8am til 4pm.

Really hard choice to make.

Best option is to ask croft as he was in the same but made the jump 6 plus months ago

That's simple - make sure your new contract doesn't forbid you doing SE work

Tell HMRC - then you will need to fill in a tax return at the end of the year

Keep your books running with all your receipts

and don't forget to save for your tax and NI

When i start I start my new job what tax code would I provide if I'm self employed ATM and planning to keep it going.

AFAIAA your employer uses the basic code and ALL your 2nd income is taxed as "additional" on top of your annual salary

So if your PAYE job is ÂŁ43K, and your SE profit is ÂŁ10K, you would pay 40% on your SE income

Best ring the tax man .........
