My custard wants us to put a tall towel rail in his utility room. Single storey extension with a loft directly above. The new (oil) boiler is in the same room. Vented system. F&R go up from the boiler and along the loft.
He wants the towel rail piped from above onto the top of the rad.
I cant see any reason not too, we could Tee AAVs on the pipe above - does this sound ok?
Thanks

Ts fine BUT

you'll struggle to get it to heat at the bottom.
it will track through the top.

so providing it isnt a fancy silly one.
you can use a union on one side and solder a length of 15mm into it to act as a diffuser to the bottom.

Ooh that's clever, solder a length of 15mm into a compression coupler and drop that onto the flow you mean? Just a lock shield on the return?

If you soldered a length of 15mm onto a 15mm-1/2" comp f/i you can then wind a rad valve on as well. So still have trv and lock shield. That's the theory at least.

You don't need AAVs in the loft if you are teeing into the flow & return to boiler at same level or less.
Any air will go into rest of system. AAVs leak anyhow if they get a lot of heat & also they suck in air on the return pipe when circulating pump is on.

Just a 3/4 rad union and lockshield.

Go into your merchants and ask to look at the union lockshields.
See which one will fit in some 15mm tube :)

The bore should be big enough on some to get it in and solder it

Then wind it into the rad

Did it today, worked a treat and yes thanks Pheonix, we still put a thumb vent on it to let the air out of the rad save most of it gettin upstairs. cheers all.
