I am fitting a power shower, and whilst working at the head of the bath I took extreme caution when standing in the bath (very thick sheets in bottom of the bath etc... BUT my wife has just pointed out a crack in the bath! Its a fibre glass bath, and whilst the acrylic interior finish has an inch long v shaped crack on the surface, with a definite ridge edge, the fibre glass underneath still appears OK, and more importantly, no leaks when the bath is full of water (and wife!).

Am I doomed? Am I now replacing the bath suite?

you can buy a bath repair kit, its about 30 quid. couples of tubes of epoxy you mix together and then fill hole, bit of sandpaper, and a tin of spray.

bought mine from p.t.s.

followed instructions to the letter and worked perfectly, when i drilled a hole in my mums bath. still good 18 months later.

Good stuff epoxy resin, try and get the clear industrial stuff if you can, cost's a bit more but worth it.
I've seen it take up and set the same colour as the surround material, you can then smooth it down as explained or use fine emery paper.

Then to get a good fine finish use "Brasso". Its really a very fine rubbing compound. I suppose you could try T cut for cars.

There are I think, also specialist bath repair kits as said. :)

I have done something similar in my bath - except the hole is much bigger! Think more a gash of 2.5 inches rather than a hairline fracture! Are the "repair kits" suitable for such repairs? or is it a question of a new bath?

Many thanks

old thread!!!!

but to answer your question it rather depends on the width of the gash and not the length. and if you have gone through the fibreglass backing.

try posting a pic and answer the question does the bath still hold water?

Cracking a bath so bad it needed replacing when changing taps was possibly the least fun day I had in plumbing so far. Actually there is one that beats that but that's a story for another day.
