We have an issue where every three days whenever we draw water from either flushing a loo or turning on a tap we get a loud 'trombone' like noise. To stop this from happening we turn off mains water and open all cold water taps to drain the system and turn mains back on. This repeats every three days. We were advised by a plumber it was 'water hammer' and have recently had a water hammer arrester fitted but it still happens. Any advice would be gratefully received. Thanks

Replace ball valve in WC cistern or CWS in loft. Can also be a tap washer. When noise occurs, try lifting lid off WC cistern, grasp the arm and pull gently up. IF noise stops, you have found it. Could also replicate with CWS but obviously normally more awkward

often it nought to do with your property but the water supplied, you can get experts in who will tell you all sorts of tales and offer solutions. It all depends on the water supplied by which utility . and from which source ? wait for some more practical suggestions from
UKPF ..you r in the right arena....centralheatking

Favorite would be the ball valve in the CWS tank in the loft this will supply the hot water cylinder and often the bathroom taps and any shower fitted and obviously the hot tap in the kitchen , the cold tap in the kitchen should be mains fed hope this helps you you diagnose the fault . Cheers kop
