Hi i'm new to the forum and am looking for some advice.

I am 25 years old, work full time (shift work) and want a career change. I have been considering plumbing for a while now, and feel it would be a job for me....

However i have no experience in the field. I understand you cannot beat on the job experience but i am looking for a course to teach me the basics. I will then work free of charge with a plumber to learn the actual trade...

There are so many course out there - university courses seen cheaper, but i've seen some private companies costing £5000+

What is the best course to attend so my needs? i am very flexible and am not interested in a crash course - part time is ideal as i can do it aroubnd my shifts.

I am based in the south east (reading area) if there is anyone out there who wouldn't mind me tagging along as a dogs body with them i would appreciate it!
cheers

hi mate and welcome to the forum, firstly in my opinion stay clear of the fast track courses as they tend to just fly through things at such a pace you dont know where you are.

im currently at college studying plumbing at level 1,(right at the start) and even after 3 weeks of being there the stuff ive learnt and taken on board is second to none, so i feel this route is the best as you get time to absorb what your being taught.

As you said you work full time so i would enquire at your local college for 1 night a week courses, not only will you learn much more, the cost of this route is far cheaper than the fast track route.

hope this helps and good luck.

you have to decide early what you want to achieve
i have undertaken at 48 my acs training while still working shifts
and its nearly killed me
working full time then unpaid on days off and then trying to do a bit of ot at work
if youre serious find a plumber first as any course you take will be pointless without the guidance of a pro
