These boilers, big & square.

Any advice on them?

For instance, they usually have a stop tap above to isolate cold going in BUT not a valve to isolate hot coming out.

I thought once the cold was off the hot would stop. No, keeps running.

Any thoughts?

How long did you run it for? They can run a bit longer than you would expect
 
Ah well not that then.

No way its the cold bypassing back through a dodgy mixer, shower or non return valve?
