Silly question but almost looks like a soil bend fitting to me, plus it's green.

I need to change the pan connector.

Looks like it goes into some other fitting which is inside the soil. What bits best to use if you please, plumbchums?

Yes and the green but is a collar of the pipe either cast or clay (you might need to remove this)
 
Sorry remove which bit? The bit inside the collar that the pan connector goes into? What is that/doing? I've put pan connectors straight into cast iron soil before and not used anything else so not sure what the inner collar is or what it's doing..

The outer collar will still work if you left it there just no point and luck ugly

The inner collar bit could be a drain connector

McAlpine DC1-BL drain connector 110mm Black | Plumb Center

And then a stnd pan connector into that
 
What's the point of that then? As opposed to just putting pan connector into soil?

It's all academic now anyway as the sod cancelled the job.

As it's cast is could be slightly bigger so the pan connector would be a bit loose

Some times a pan connector fits fine but others is too big or too small to accept one
