Hi,

I am looking to build a DIY hot water bath, I was planning on using a small screw plug immersion heater, drilling a hole into a polypropylene tank and using a nut/gasket to seal it.

Recon it could work?

why ????? a whole lot of nasty things come to mind why you should not do it , buy a foot bath bud ha ha cheers kop

It would probably work, but why would you want to do it? Consider:

1. Make sure its earthed and fed through an RCD.
2. What's going to turn the electricity off when its reached temperature, or does the heater have a thermostat?
3. That tray you illustrate doesn't have vertical sides, so the top of the element might poke out of the water unless you're careful.
4. The melting point of polypropylene is about 160C, but it may get soft at lower temperatures.
5. How are you going to stop it boiling / evaporating dry?

So the overall consensus seems like 100% guaranteed success.

I was planning on using a cheap temperature controller and thermo-couple to avoid most of the fires caused, the others I guess will have to be dealt with whenever they occur. Hopefully the plastic lid will stop the water boiling dry, if its not in its molten/fiery state.

No bud the consenses is you will end up hurting yourself or someone else or worse what were you thinking and what is it for ? . Kop

The plan was to build a heated water bath around 50 C for cleaning parts. It'll have some pure water in so I'm limited to using only stainless and polypropylene.

Can't you just get an ultrasonic cleaner ?? You can get some with elements in
