Hi Folks. Opinions please. Been asked to supply some rads for a customer, prices quoted by my usual plumbing supplier are well above prices from e.g Toolstation. Do all rads of the same spec (size etc) throw out the same amount of heat? Or is it worth spending the extra cash?
Thanks in advance for your input

Check the datasheets from the manufacturers, there might not be much in it but there usually are differences. Be careful of really cheap ones as the steel is very thin and pinholes easily.

What type of standard rad throws out most heat for the specified BTU?

I had customer who supplied his own Turkish made rads, they were terrible, weighed 3 times as much as an equivalent Stelrad and kicked out half as much heat. Be careful!

Almost all rads sold here have there heat outputs (& its Watts not btu's boys) displayed after being tested to BS EN 442 (i.e. Delta T 50) so that you can compare like for like on outputs but it is worth a check cos a few use Delta T of 60 deg C not 50, look for the BS 442.

Just had a look at some Stelrads and a double convector looks like the job.. Can't go wrong with them then, would you say?

They all give off what is specified.

The difference in output per size between the best and worst performing brands is only about 5%

stelrad, quinn, myson, etc.... all decent rads. Go for the one your local merchant give the best price on.

Excellent advice from everyone there. Really helpful, Have a good day everyone. Hope to speak to you again soon.

Thanks again:euro:

A large number of rad brands sold in this country are made in Turkey. Some are fine, some are OK, and some are terrible.

As others have said, check the EN442 outputs, and make sure that they are at DT50 (which they should be if from a reputable source).
