buffer
A buffer solution (more precisely, pH buffer or hydrogen ion buffer) is an aqueous solution consisting of a mixture of a weak acid and its conjugate base, or vice versa. Its pH changes very little when a small amount of strong acid or base is added to it. Buffer solutions are used as a means of keeping pH at a nearly constant value in a wide variety of chemical applications. In nature, there are many systems that use buffering for pH regulation. For example, the bicarbonate buffering system is used to regulate the pH of blood, and bicarbonate also acts as a buffer in the ocean.
I have looked at the S-PLAN wiring diagram (standard) for my new UFH/DHW system, but I don't think it offers me the best use of the new heat pumps resources, given i want to run the heat pump at low temp for a long time during sunlight hours only. Instead I came up with different control plan...
Having a chat with colleagues on this one to decide on best route.
Existing 500L megaflo which does not provide sufficiant HW.
Cold water entering cools the hot way too quickly and consequently the 500L is good for about half that.

Good day all,
I would like to get some advise and perhaps the solution to the issues with my UFH system.
We did install UFH in an entire house and got rid of all radiators.
The system is 14 port manifold (only 12 are in use) feeding 7 zones.
Total room area is 97 m2, with the biggest zone...
The following is a proposed very simple installation of UFH open/direct to an existing 1000 gallon fossil fuel hot water storage tank:
We are told that this won't work since the UFH pipework and pump are above the height of the tank, and therefore gravity will empty the UFH... But our...
Same issue and I'd really appreciate the help.
In a system like this, or something else you can suggest, how would the buffer tank be enabled to provide its stored heat without the boiler/heat pump consuming energy to create heat?
Please advise.
Thanks.
Hi All, hopefully a simple question, but wanted to ask those who've a bit more experience than myself.
Obviously an UFH system would normally (in a typical gas/combi boiler scenario) send a call for heat from the boiler, firing the boiler into life.
I have a Biomass (wood pellet) boiler (with...
Hi I'm about to install a 30kw Gasification boiler. I also require 2 x 1000ltr buffer tanks, I've looked at many installations and it's not clear which is the best option series or parallel. Also I'm not sure of the best pipe size between the 2 tanks, the tanks have 1 1/2" connections I was...
I have a 70kW woodchip biomass boiler installation including a 650 litre buffer tank, all installed in 2014. The buffer tank loses pressure from say 2.58 bars to 0.00 bars within a 48 hour period. Yet there are no visible signs of any water leaks,
When this tank is drained of water then...
I have connected a 14kw pellet boiler stove to a 200 litre buffer tank. The original aim was to produce some lower temperature water for the underfloor heating circuit whilst feeding some rads upstairs. The boiler stove is fitted with a circulation pump on the return side. There is a 55 degree...
This bit of a boring one no doubt but please bare with me.

I've got a Swedish buffer cylinder as part of my ground source heating system. I'm trying to find an immersion heater with a 2" bsp thread for a sensible price. Everything in thus country seems to be 2.25" bsp.
Any advice gratefully received!
Thanks
OK, A nice technical one for the Bank Holiday Weekend :)
Buffer tanks - 2 port connection or 4 ?
Which is best 2 or 4 port, in What situation and why?
What factors e.g. does it depend upon the heating load types (e.g. underfloor / simple zone controlled rads)
So under what circumstances...
Hi again
Just wondering if anyone can give their opinion on linking up a stove and boiler.
The boiler and hot water tank are sealed, the house is a bungalow with a megaflow tank at floor level.
I guess a thermal store would be recommended but after researching this it looks like it will cost...

I have a customer with a Gledhill buffer store brand new never used it came as a package but the job had 4 bespoke cylinders made so is surplus model no ASL400BUF

Connections 4 x 35 mm top

Is there any way to install a Solar Thermal system with an existing single coil Megaflo cylinder?
I am thinking maybe a buffer cylinder can be pre-heated by the solar thermal, before supplying the Megaflo. I appreciate the buffer cylinder will probably need its own set of safety controls, so...
Will try explain this problem best I can. I have a Ecocat thermal store (Chelmer heating) for central heating and DHW.
My understanding is the the cylinder has a hot water section at the top and a heat buffer below (for central / underfloor heating). The Chelmer diagrams show both of the tanks...

Hi, I have just acquired a new air source heat pump to replace the old one which died a couple of years ago.
On the old one, there was a connection from the heat pump to the central heating circulation pump. On this new one there is no additional wire provided for this. Added to that the heat...

I’m fitting a 50kw boiler and buffer tank ( no coil),charged by laddomat 21. I’ve seen the benefits of the ladd and how it can layer the water in the buffer tank with a slow flow etc.. These are to be housed in a boiler room away from the house
However from the buffer tank I will have another...
