Hi I have an issue ( maybe 2 ) the toilet keeps running into bowl through the internal over flow also its running out the top by the arm on the left ( see pic ) if you lift the arm up it stops coming out of it but continues to trickle into the bowl below I've had a look online and its suggested you change some washers / diaprams due to limescale build up and pitting but from what I've read it could be a fault in both parts in the pic ? another option would to replace all the internal parts ?? I'm a diy plumber fairly confident I could tackle either option given some grateful advice
Thanks

Personally, as the Ideal Standard you have are pretty poor quality, I'd replace the fill valve with a make more easily serviced in future. You'll aslo find the flush valve diaphragm shrinks when immersed in water. No I haven't made that up. When that begins to leak bin it for something 19th century ;)

Oh ok so if I replace both any ideas which ones to buy and would they fit the existing cistern ?

Do you have another toilet in the house? If so take the old ones with you to the local plumb Centre (Wolseley) or City Plumbing andbget there recommended replacements. Or talk to a plumber on the counter when there.

Hi thanks for that I may attempt a quick fix as I have 2 toilets to do ( same ) I've been told ( Earlier in thread ) to replace the washer at the top of the fill valve .The washer you show in your link that's for the flush valve yeah ? Ive seen some clips of others Flush Valves and they twist off to gain access is this the same ? ( just to add I totally agree with renewing the innards but I could do without dismantling two toilets at the mo although I know I may have too :-(….. )

Cheers

With these flush valves you can remove them just by twisting them at the body, water will run down the bowl but check the bottom rubber that’s most likely the cause if not it’s the diaphragm scaled up. Changed 3 about a month ago
