Went to service a boiler and the following was found. Yes that is a carpet gripper fixed to the wall with the boiler jig wired to it

Least it wasn't a brass one ! They look so cheap and nasty!

Obviously been one of these bang it in in one day jobs. Guessing that previously a mains / chaffetoux water heater was fitted, they have bricked up flue with thermalite block, not plastered it so fastened it to gripper / edging which was spanning the block.Flue not sealed internally or externally, prv discharge straight through wall over communal drive, gas pipe brought up from downstairs pantry through middle landing on kite winder staircase approx. 2 inch from wall with no clips ( great if you slip on stairs as it gives you something to grab). Boiler mounted in cupboard over stairs with it mounted approx 12inch below level of door which is 3'6 off of floor. Needed to do a commando crawl to get under boiler. All this and I didn't even get to take the case off!!,

We are from Alberta, and I own an electrical company. I have been asked by a BC Mechanical P. Eng. to install an emergency STOP button at the man-door to the boiler room. It's intent is to 'halt' the operation of the boilers in the room should there be an emergency. He is demanding that I do...
