Hi Everyone,

Just wondered if anyone can recommend good site/book for working out load bearing of joists (also good book for general construction/building). i am quoting a job and 300litre cylinder would be preferred but worried about weight as on 1st floor in airing cupboard.

luckily they currently have both floors up in rooms either side of airing cupboard so i can see joist dimensions & spacing just not sure on calculations required.

Help much appreciated.

Thanks

Your best option would be to speak to a structural engineer

As above, it's not a straight forward look up.
It's a job for a Pro.

Size /spacing of joist.
Distance of load from support.
Age / condition / type of timber.
Whether the joists have been notched or drilled.

I'd specify in the quote that the builder / architect if there is one, confirms the floor is suitable for the load.

I am based near west malling in kent, can anyone recommend a structural engineer near here?
