Had some random employment agency ring me up today saying would i lim,e to work for them on contract blah blah blah.
Anyway they said i must pass phone exam and name 5 electrical tests i must do before working on any boiler . I failed because could only think of 2 maybe 3 .
Whats the 5??

Polarity , earth continuity , short circuit , and resistance to earth , come on sombody whats the 5th lol

The five electrical tests are normally as follows
Continuity
Insulation resistance
Polarity
Earth loop impedance
Residual current device

The first two are dead tests & the rest are live so would not carry these out before you worked on a boiler.

As questions are specific to working on boiler maybe simpler answer would be:-
Bonding of Gas meter: Bonding of Water Main: Isolation : Fused Protection: Phase. Neutral & Earth.

The tests you mention apply when installing a new circuit mate.

The clue is before working on any boiler

Basically asking for safe isolation.

Identify the circuit to be isolated and Turn off the circuit breaker.
Attach the lock off device, label and padlock and put the key in your pocket.
Prove voltage tester on proving unit
Check that the circuit / accessory is dead. N-L, E-L and N-E (single phase 230v).

If it is safe isolation why ask him to "name 5 electrical tests" ??

and don't know why you would be wanting to turning off CB's if all you were going to be working on was a boiler fed from a D/P FCU.

Turning off all the kitchen would mean they were unable to make you a cup of tea, not a good idea!

Bloke who came to fix my freezer carried out electrical tests before he started to look at it. (ELI)

Well those 5 test must be done after moving the cover 1st thing before doing any work

Sometimes fcu is hidden or can not be found or if you have local isolation of course you use that. Thats the reason you isolate at source.

That bloke most likely found nothing with wiring only to be your freezer. Rcd tripping ?
