[FONT=helvetica, arial, sans-serif]Wish someone invented a device for 'MUPPET ALERT' , today customer full on kicked off because i charged my drill in his house, accuses me of stealing electric and wants it off bill. then later wants my PL due to fact of dirty mark on door , then later wants to alter invoice as plumbs only earn about £100 a day. Had to spend the day treading carefully around him as was checkatrade cust .After about hours worth of work in his house started to get funny feeling about him, hasn't paid yet refused invoice wanted email one only .

reckon this ones gonna kick off

Can anyone estimate what the cost of charging a cordless drill battery is? Would it even be 1p?

Honestly possibly one of the worst customers had for long time, within the hour he said about how these internet sites are good for cust as it keeps trades under control . Thought strange comment then kinda got worse .

I just know payment is going to be a nightmare .

You do seem to get your fair share of bad customers. Maybe you want to think about rebranding yourself and aim for a slightly different market? As it really seems like there is at least one topic a week on here from you about bad customers, everyone has the occasional idiot but you seem to get a steady stream of them.

Other plumbs round here say the same funny enough

I have had people wanting me (or the company I worked for) to pay for electric because we used a 110v drill and used their electric.

And several wanting me to pay for the gas whilst servicing or testing boilers, hobs etc. One on a block of flats and it was a top floor with meters down on the ground floor and the gas rate came out really low when I got back up they had been turned down so I turned them back up and said not to touch until I'd finished, the way he reacted was as though I'd just stolen a couple of grand off him. I did walk out laughing.

well!
enough said about being on those middle-man tinternet organisations, and trades on them allow it!

best reason i avoid them,
went out today and got £135 changing a filling loop (albiet deep under a cupboard and didnt really want to be bothered) geezer gave me a tenner tip as well ;) .its about selecting your customers and those sites, its the otherway round.imo.

if it was me i'd send him an invoice with x amount deducted for using electricity to charge drill say 35p and then add on £2.45 for use of drill battery on the job

Makes sense... If a Job came up as a filling loop swop it would probably be bid down to about 30 pounds on some sites :)

I've not found checkatrade too bad compared to others. It's just another form of advertising.

Every now and then you will get the odd crackpot even without checkatrade

Ive noticed that once you get over £100 the customer changes quite dramtically, anything under and its no issues .

Biggest issue is like today felt i was being blackmailed as they know you can't afford any low marks.

Fished about 10 kgs of sodden soiled paper out of a pan before being able to clear obstruction with the old mop routine and the guy said hope your govenors gonna reimberse me for the water you used to flush the pan 3or 4 times I'm on a meter you know......I said yes he will take it all into account same as he now has to charge you extra to dispose of this lot......look on his face was a picture......lol regards Turnpin:wink:;

chuck him 50p and tell him its an advance....see you every tuesday to charge me batteries!!;lol

I must of been lucky most of the ones I've worked for have been fine. The ones that I go out to and only price for I'm not worried about. I am waiting for that one though who uses it against me.

I do like the right to reply on it though.

years ago an old lad made me direct my drain hose into his fish pond whilst I was flushing his system through post boiler install, he didnt want to waste his metered water, I never went back to see what his fish thought of a litre of system cleaner :)

Did he make you a cup of tea or coffee?
If he did, you would owe him electric for boiling the kettle plus tea bag, milk and any biscuits.

We have just moved in to a 1934 Semi- and I am getting round a few simple DIY tasks, including a couple of plumbing-part renewals such as modern pipe/u-bend/fittings to kitchen sink, rinse sink etc as preventative maintenance! Nothing complex or specialist, that's for you expert guys! But in...

I am generally a decent handyman, can usually make 2+2=4 and take care of most things to avoid troubling experts with just the basics, but know also not to bumble around blindly beyond that. We moved house last week and with the glorious hot weather we weren't bothered about the heating, more...
