Hi all, I was wondering if anyone had claimed back the tax for buying tools and washing their uniform? I've had a look online and it seems to be a bit of a minefield and wondered how you guys did it?
Cheers, Dave

I get something like £50 per year washing allowance, just filled in the form that's all.

If you are self employed you can claim back tax for just about everything that is fully part of your business. That's means any tools you buy, or repairs to them, work clothes, stationary, etc. Nobody is going to question reasonable amounts, although keep all receipts.
Westminster MPs have been legitimately claiming ridiculous amounts for their homes, - everything from a pen to a luxury item, so I wouldn't worry about claiming for a genuine expense.

Thanks all, how do I go about the claiming back? Do I have to fill in a form online or get one posted out? I am an employee and do you have to be qualified or can apprentices claim?
Cheers, Dave.

If your direct you can still fill out a self assessment form. Claim for what's allowed. Your company should officially keep your safety equipment in good order which includes washing your clothing.

How do I claiming back? do I fill the form online or go to the office some one please guide
Thanks

Look at https://listentotaxman.com/uk-tax/news/156.html.

Phone up the tax people, tell them what you hope you can claim for, ask them if there's anything else allowable, then ask them how to go about claiming. I've always found them very helpful to deal with. Its not their money, so they have no interest in trying to mislead you.

As an employee, I suspect there is little or nothing you can successfully claim for.
