went to a pair of blocked toilets in a basement in a four story property ,the toilets them selves were not blocked it seems the soil pipe that runs behind the toilets could be blocked, or could it be some kind of vent problem, still blocked after two hours trying to un block..going back tomorrow any ideas

Are you sure that the 2 WC's don't empty into a pump system as it is a basement ?? can you see the base of the stack & there it goes out to the sewer. Have a look at the depth off the drains outside compared to the basement level ??
If stack is blocked call a jetting machine in if you are not sure of what you are doing (fix a price first).

Can you rod up the drain line from a man hole (sorry not PC, an "access point") if not & you have got to start using access doors in the stack, best to call a specialist as it can become very messy & take a lot of your time. They may charge a bit but can normally sort it out. Phone round get price & tell 'em anything that comes your way again you will pass it on if they do it right (PS be on site when they are there).
