Discuss How to tidy up waste pipes to make space for bin in the USA area at PlumbersForums.net

Hi, first post here so hoping all the experienced plumbers out there can help!

My house was built 12 months ago and the location of the waste pipes under the kitchen sink take up a lot of space.

I was hoping to fit a bin in the sink cabinet and during construction when the kitchen went in I asked my building supervisor who said that’s the best that could be done due to the location of the main outlet pipe in relation to the sink.
Having a look around I see there are many options like short p traps etc so hoping some changes can be made to compact the waste down.
In the attached pic you will see the p trap is on the left and the main waste outlet in the bottom right. I was thinking a short p trap on the right going backwards then down into the main waste essentially reversing what is currently there and making s
Any thoughts/ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys.

Is that a double bowl sink arrangement? If the trap is in the way on the left, are you able to keep existing and swap to the right?
Thanks for the reply. Yep it’s a double bowl sink setup but the issue is that the bottom right is where the main waste outlet is if you see what I mean so I can’t put the bin on the right.
Cheers

Thanks for the reply mate. I read somewhere that s-traps are not commonly used any more due to siphoning issues? Not sure how correct that is cos I’m not a plumber so have no idea about these things 😀

it’s a shame that when they planning the main waste pipe out that they put it directly below the sink. I would have thought they would have put it further back for clearance.
