Discuss Which Dual Flush Push Button Do I Need? in the Plumbing Jobs | The Job-board area at PlumbersForums.net

Hi, I have a dual flush push button that needs replacing (or perhaps just the rods only) and I don't know which kind I need or where to get one. I don't know which make or model toilet I have as there are no markings on it other than "L34" stamped on the underside of the cistern lid and what looks like "A5" or "AS" written in some white UV writing but it is partially rubbed off.

As you can see in the pictures, the push button itself is a half-crescent variety and one of the rods appears to be missing a white tightening nut and the springs inside the housing are rather worn so this has caused one half of the button to sag down and become difficult to use.

I have tried going to Screwfix and they said they don't stock this particular button and couldn't tell me what kind it was anyway and I tried a couple other plumbers merchants on a nearby industrial estate but they also said they didn't have one and suggested it would be difficult to get hold of and that I may need to replace the whole flush system for a new one and new button. They also said it was a big job but to be honest I think they just thought I was stupid and were trying to rip me off, I find it hard to believe I can't just replace the button.

Anyway, please can someone help me identify which button and/or rods I need and where I might be able to get one. It seems a simple fix of just unscrewing the current button and replacing it with a new one. I have measured the hole and it's just under 4.5cm wide. The rods are around 8cm long.

Thanks for any help.

I'll see if I can find one. Like I said, I went into a couple of local plumbers merchants and they seemed to either not be bothered or actively try to get me to buy something more expensive that I didn't need and suggest I needed to get someone in to fit (followed by the blokes mate behind the counter suggesting he knew someone), the whole thing just made me feel uncomfortable and suspicious so I left it.

Just google cistern flush buttons- loads out there or maybe tomorrow I`ll have time to match it.

Sorry to read about your bad experiance, don`t use them for anything again. As said I`ll try and match it tomorrow if I can find time.

Can I ask what exactly what is wrong with that one you have?

It looks like one of the springs inside the mechanism has perished and so it's allowing one of the rods to slip back down (also the rod's tightening nut is missing so it's not held in place properly either). In one of the photos I provided, you can see the right half crescent button is lower down than the left. It keeps dropping down.

It's an old part and so it's probably best to just replace it. I will wait and see if you can find a match or something similar.

Replace the syphon for this one comes complete with the push button. Kop

That is similar to what the guy at one of the plumber's merchants told me. It seems a bit much to replace the whole system just for a push button. I think I am leaning more towards trying one of the cheap push button replacements as suggested by snowhead and sammanthias.

The proper matching push button is avaliable but at the price they want I would try the cheapo ones first tbh.
