Can you use construction board instead of Tile Backer Boards

Found this. Just wondered if it can be used instead of tile backer boards.
I realise that I need a 1wmm board to make up a gap between wall and shower tray, but the STS tile backer board is only 10mm. I did consider dot and dab the tile backer to increase its thickness

Says so in the spec so should be fine , same weight as hardibacker which is also a 12mm cement board. The Wickes STS screws they recommend look good, predrilling cement board is a right pita.
