I had a load of wall tiles left over, offcuts and that, so I used them last time, seemed pretty heat resistant. Other option is use speedfit everywhere:D
 
The one that looks like asbestos. It was a woven thick thing. Lasted years. (Now I'm hoping it wasn't asbestos).o_O
 
Try a flame deflector for the blow torch. Also laco do a gel spray on heat mat which is good for tight spaces.
 
I used an old fire blanket yrs ago, that I cut into smaller squares
Didn't give a thought about it being asbestos then
Now use the monument ones which when they get caked in flux, will smoke a house out in about 10 mins

Far out lasts any others I’ve tried, not the cheapest but hey, buy nice or buy twice.
