Last saturday I used my first press fit machine , and TBH I was blown away, ok fittings are expensive, machines are expensive but my god they are clean and fast .

I always said I would stop old school and stick to solder, but I may have a dabble.

Do any of you guys use them, if you do what makes would you say are the best , any ones you would avoid.

Thanks in advance chaps

Dear forum members, remember this isnt a facebook forum................................. :)

love them too and yes there slightly more but not that expensive and geberit i use and very handy when theres water in the pipe/you cant turn it off

Geberit Mapress | Pipekit

another plus you dont have to remove the meter to t into it (on gas)

what machine did you use?

love the idea of press fit, but am sick n tired of the converts on facebook going on and on bout them, if you get my drift.

Couldn't care a monkeys for it still a pipe , still a fitting and still plumbing .

I'm thinking about it as developers I'm working with want to cut out heat work in roof spaces for insurance and we're looking at putting unvented cylinders in the roof spaces.

Will report back tomorrow .

Anybody else please add your comments

if its geberit dont forget your £250 of free fittings (think i saw somewhere)

Not had a play, yet. Just concerned about the costs to get it started.

Would also assume you have to give it a little bit more thought if you cant get the jaws in somewhere ie preassemble a section before fastening in place?

Yep pal, that is the big one, theres now one manufacturer that has a 45degree jaw, but yes throwing them about under a kitchen sink , will not be easy

Shaun on a rough percentage how would you compare your usage ... Solder to press ?

I'm same, never used one but they seem to be getting real popular, I've been looking at them myself, it makes a difference what your be using it for, I'm just domestic so only need up to 28 jaw.

Seen it on a few bio mass installs when I've been doing other things. Looks neat and tidy. Also seen 5 holiday cottages done in mlcp and pressfit. Looks gash, all surface mounted.

how did it go the press day?

Yep ok cheers . They are that easy my six year old granddaughter could 'press' lol .
For normal domestic the 12 volt is spot on , the 18 volt is a bit of a beast, and on most domestic jobs is miles too big.

As regards price they are putting together a package in the new year , machine and fittings for ?? , we will have to wait and see.

I quite fancy one , if I just did boiler installs I would 100% buy one, but I do a lot of plumbing and just cant see me getting one under a sink , bath etc etc . So will give it some thought.

Any more opinions guys ?

you can get it anywhere if you think about it and plan ahead but your right they 12v/10.8v would be ideal for you

Be interesting to hear what the cost and package is :)

Currently do a lot of bathrooms, but am looking at pushing more oil installs next year.

He did say, there whole business model is to get plumbers / heat engineers off soldering and in to 'pressing '
Ok it may have been sales bull, but strangely he only was interested in the guys who didnt press and wanted to put together a package . One lad was an original 'presser' ( dont know if thats what you are called , most of face book calls you a press fit wank** lol ) and he really didnt seem bothered about selling just the machine, or thats the impression I got .

As an alternative to hot work in specific situations pressing has its place, although conex push fit will fulfil the same function for water. My concern is the three alternative fittings, water, gas and solar per pipe size, together with differing makers of equipment and fittings means mistakes are inevitable. The skill of properly formed end feed joints should not be abandoned or downgraded by sales propaganda or ill informed insurance industry.
