Just had a phone conversation with Ben Bostock from WRAS about the new WaterSafe scheme and asked if he could he supply me with some details I could share share with other interested plumbers here on the UK Plumbers Forums. He told me to pass this email on:

Dear Keefy,

WaterSafe/WIAPS membership update

Further to our conversation, I write in regard to the free new WaterSafe scheme for Approved plumbers. We would like to invite you to become WaterSafe recognised and as such take advantage of free online exposure on the website/search facility due to be launched in late May. Firstly, you will have to join WIAPS which can be done using the same form, linked below.

Please could you fill in and return the [DLMURL="https://service.mail.com/dereferrer/?target=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.wras.co.uk%2FWIAPS%2Fpdfs%2FPlumbers%2520application%2520and%2520WaterSafe%2520form%2520-%2520new%2520tel%2520%26%2520fax%2520nos%2520-%252016-01-2013.pdf&lang=en"]WIAPS application form[/DLMURL] and the WaterSafe consent form which follows with the required information, including national insurance and DOB details.

The new website ([DLMURL="https://service.mail.com/dereferrer/?target=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.watersafe.org.uk%2F&lang=en"]Watersafe.org.uk[/DLMURL]) will be a one-stop-shop for customers looking for a qualified plumber who are members of one of the seven Approved Contractors’ Schemes in the UK and the service is completely free to join and to use. In effect, it is an additional bolt-on to their existing WIAPS membership.

All we require is that you complete the form and send it back to us at your earliest convenience together with copies of you public and employers’ liability insurance with and the NVQ level 2 qualifications and Water Regulations certificates for those plumbers mentioned. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me directly on 01495 237 398.

Best wishes,

Ben Bostock.

Just realised those links might not work for everyone as it's a copy/paste from my email account so here they are just in case:

WIAPS Application Form

WaterSafe.org.uk

Anyway, I'm hoping they put the effort in to promote this new scheme and make consumers aware of it. I also think we should try to be positive about it because what it's attempting to do is create a single database/register of qualified and competent plumbers which is long overdue.

Cheers mate ill take a look when ive finished with the ro filter numpty !

Here's the plan anyway. If they can get it enough national attention maybe it will become second nature for people to insist on having a WaterSafe plumber much like everyone knows there's only such a thing as a GasSafe gas engineer.

maybe watersafe can go **** themselves, another bull**** scam organization/bunch of ******s trying to get money out of us

LOL. Although I'm all for the idea of this I have my suspicions they'll introduce some kind of charge for your free membership somewhere down the line. Maybe the price of the WIAPS courses will go up to subsidise it - keeping your WaterSafe registration 'free'.

Hmm that would leave me at a disadvantage, i will be qualified for gas and oil +unvented's.
having no nvq or quals in plumbing that would mean i could.... Put the oil and gas to a boiler, commission it but not pipe it up, put an unvented in place and sign it off after?

Not to mention the registration costs, do we swallow them or pass the costs onto the customer.......tbh my friend paid his money and did an nvq in three weeks.

he was barely better than when he started with no experience but had a piece of paper and far too much confidence (hes given up now after ive had to fix his screw ups and got an apprenticeship).

Bit of an update on this:

"The WaterSafe team have also completed the work with BPEC that provides an alternative assessment and recognition route for experienced plumbers who do not have the qualifications for the normal entry route. This jointly developed course has now been accepted by Ofqual and has been passed to the Register of Regulated Qualifications." - https://www.instituteofwater.org.uk/news-post/watersafe-briefing-note-for-stakeholders-june-2013/

BPEC launch a brand new plumbing qualification ? Level 3 WaterSafe | BPEC
