I have a slight leak on the joint between my kitchen sink bottle trap & the waste pipe (which I'm getting fixed). My question is, if I use my washing machine, will water travel the wrong way back to the leaky bottle trap? Or is it independent from that pipe?

Because you say "the wrong way back" then in theory the answer is No but without actually seeing how it is all piped up then best I can say is possibly. Can you use bucket or towels to catch any drips ?
