My toilet system cistern has a fault and throws off the button connection when someone tries to flush I cannot find a direct replacement will any part fit the cistern as long as I replace the button and the flush valve.

Lots of them will, some may not. If you go with a decent brand, they’ll state what sized hole their valve and button will fit.

It's not so much the button size that concerns me it's the valve part itself.

They're generally shortened by cutting them down.
