Hi all,

I've recently replaced a toilet flush valve on a customer's toilet. Old valve out, new one in (a Dudley Turboflush, syphon type). All installed correctly, but the flush is slow... It does empty the whole cistern (9L) but the flow rate is too low to wash the contents of the pan away.

Never come across a syphonic toilet before but I understand this could be the problem. It is an old toilet, not sure how old though. Are there any ways to check for definite? If so is it worth me trying to find a 'syphonic bomb' or would you just replace the toilet?

Thanks Blod,

The thing is I'm not even convinced its a Syphonic pan. Is there any easy way to tell? I don't remember removing an aspirator when I took the old valve out but I guess it could have been inside the syphon tube?

Argh, the problem is I didn't really check inside it - this is the first such problem I've ever had when replacing a flush valve so somewhat of a learning experience tbh.

I fitted the new valve a couple of months back and they've just got round to calling me. I don't know if there was one in there - is it possible to confirm whether it's syphonic or not by looking at the pan? It's just I've been back today and tinkered with the flush valve so I don't want to go back again unless I can fix it!
