Hey guys

I had a 2 year spell offshore, every man and his dog is offshore in the town where i stay, the rig (jackup) i was on was a drilling rig and twice in the 2 years ran outa contract, first one was about 8 months after i joined it finished the wells and from derrickman down was paid off , then it won a 1 year contract in holland , 2 nights in amsterdam a month wayyyyyy, then after the years contract was up from derrickman down was paid off again , they bid for jobs the exact same way as we estimate just on a grander scale, the jack up i was on the galaxy 3 at that time its day rate was £180,000 a day,, i never went back as started on my own, i was asked back aswell,
While i was there i realised that only job on drilling rigs that resemble plumbing is what they call a house mouse, its basically a handyman, if you want to do pure plumbing then there are specialist companies that go onto rigs(construction sites offshore) that are being over hauled with new accomadation modules etc, i was approached by a guy from Buckie last year to do plumbing work in his house and hes a gaffer who works for SWACO who offered me a job with drill cuttings and there job handle is a thermal engineer, they seperate the drill cuttings from the oil based mud with this new thermal machine, they look for ex plumbers,, I never went as been doing good in business but i often think what if,,anyway my survival ran out 2 years ago, all my mates are rigs,

Ment to say lookin at your title aberdeen there are a couple of specialist companies in aberdeen as i know a guy i used to be his journeyman years ago he joined British gas and hes now plumbing offshore with a specialist company in aberdeen called Aiken group, his name is Ross Murray

hi seen your post from last year and im thinking of trying a different path myself.. Wondering how you got on????
