Discuss How to pretest when threaded at each end? in the UK Plumbing Forum | Plumbing Advice area at PlumbersForums.net

I have a garden setup with metal pipe at each end and a pvc run in the middle. Proposed. That's what i want to do. Join the two with water pressure 1/2" pvc. So the gear is all there. Threaded joiner at each end. Elbows and joiners making the run between.
But I realise if the threaded ends leak when I turn on the water I won't be able to tighten them up once the pvc is all glued up. And I can't test them until it is all glued up.
How do you guys handle that one?

l doubt there's anyone as dumb as me will ever read this thread but just in case here is what I've found, I think:

I think you just screw up as hard as you can, with plumber's tape, and trust to luck. If it fails you cut the pipe and do what you can to fix it and then rejoin the pipe.

If there's some movement in the pipe run no problem rejoining. You can get a joiner in. If there is no movement you can't so you have to be creative - some folks I've seen on YT make their own 'sleeves' and that sort of thing - or just unfasten things until there is movement.

Mine failed. Not at the screw thread but at an elbow I forgot to glue on side of. But I was able to create some slack, pull it apart, glue, refix.

All good.
