Hi all,
Just realised I've never actually had to fix pipe clips (for 15mm copper) to plasterboard.
Am I right in thinking I can just screw them on, with a screw going into a drywall plug?
Jennie

No. They will just pop out at the first opportunity.
You need to use plasterboard plugs. I can't remember the correct name now, but someone will tell us.
Screwfix, toolstation, or your local merchant will have them.

Oh, you did mention drywall plug in your post. YES, THAT SHOULD BE FINE assuming it is what I think you mean. It's the drink again. I appologise

I find it easier to drill a pilot hole before screwing the plasterboard fixing in, they claim they are self drilling but I've found they normally snap if you don't use a pilot.

I also find the screws supplied with the plasterboard fixings are too tight for the fixings themselves, often turning the plug itself before the screw is fully home!! Therefore I use separate screws from my box!!

And if you use clip spacers the screws are too short......I tend to replace with 2" 8 screws.

If you have the choice, like in a cupboard or airing cupboard, boiler house etc, - use timber horizontally first.
Just find where the stud work uprights positions are & screw nice finished batons of wood - (2"x1" usually good) level to where you need clips later screwed. This let's you use heavy pipe insulation without the need of clip extensions

Yeah no probs. If i need to remove the pipe from the clip, hold the clip.

As mentioned UNO wall plugs....or if you wanted to go OTT hollow wall anchors.

i HATE rawlplug uno plugs! the only 5.5mm red plug that wont fit in a 5.5mm hole!!!! also wont fit thru a standard wc screw hole , so when going to re fit loose toilets i have to pull the wc out to fit the plugs in ! but obviously nobody else gets this problem! haha! so might be down to a personal error!!!

my choice depends on what stresses and strains there will be. So in an A/C or where the clip is taking the weight of something then i would aim for an umbrella or spring toggle. otherwise id use a redi driver (pig tail, spiral) plaster board fixing.

if it need to have alot of strength then get some timber involved.

Copper pipes, I think its fair to say, is not what it used to be, the copper is getting thin while the cost is going up. Meanwhile, plastic Pushfit seems to be getting better and better, cost and convenience was always better, but now the quality is to, have we reached a stage where plastic will...

Hi, Can anyone advise as to why the cold water to my bathroom keeps airlocking? This originally happened about 12 months ago and has happened 3-4 times since. It’s an upstairs bathroom, fed from a tank in the attic. The tank is about 8 Meters away and feeds a bath, sink and toilet. The tank...
