End Feed Fittings

Hello, can someone clarify the difference between end feed reducing couplings and reducers. Would i be correct in my assumption that reducers take the pipework internally and reducing couplings take say a compression fitting external to the fitting ? Could someone give me some examples of different uses please.

Couplers = same size at each end
Reducers (reducing couplers) = different pipe size at each end.

Reducers can be external, internal or a combination (one end external the other internal).

A reducing coupling is female both ends (the pipe goes inside the fitting) and would be used to reduce the pipe size on a run.
An insert reducer is female on the smaller end and male on the bigger. Used to reduce from a fitting.

tamz, thankyou, no problems with the reducing couplings but on the straight reducer say 22 x 15 this would be female on the smaller end with the pipework going into the fitting and the larger end could be say a 22mm compression fitting coming off say 22mm pipework ?

Yes but if you put them into a compression fitting you will need to give it a half slip as the tail of the reducer is too short for the depth of most compressions and don't use them to come off pushfits.
