get quite a few CVs as I'm sure you all do, but one particular one has caught my eye since its from my friend!(dont think he knows this is my company) anyway hes got all the ACS quals but has a BPEC certificate in plumbing and gas ?? What suprised me is that I thought he was doing sound engineering or something at college, but now it seems he has all these certifications and ACS quals but only 10 weeks experience on site. He's also gas safe registered ?

So I doubt he will get any employment, because in college the SVQ3 is the minimum and he's a bit old for an apprenticeship (23) so then his only option would be to go it on his own, another potential competitor within a 1 mile radius of my home(30 registered businesses within 1 mile of me already)

when will it end ? to be honest I have never heard of the BPEC plumbing and gas certification

"BPEC Gas Installation and Maintenance Certification" sorry thats what it is, along with all the usual unvented and energy efficiency certs

can't edit my posts !!!!!!! so replace the word "college" with "scotland" lol

not really, if i ever needed a hand i would phone someone else more useful but I'm just wondering how many others have done these courses and are trying to get work which isnt out there and then will end up setting up on their own

How did he manage to get a portfolio of work?

and he got gas safe registered based upon that?? Scary

yeah pretty much, he done the course at a college but its not really gave him any qualifications just some basic plumbing and the usual unvented, energy efficieny etc which would be ideal if people could afford to take on an adult apprentice but I doubt he would get a start I would be suprised if he does.

after all, all the school kids are getting grants towards apprenticeships because of the commonwealth games

Its a pretty dire situation to be in, for us too, as they're only option is to go it alone, with no knowledge of pricing either which will mean us possibly losing out to a less experienced guy because they cant even price a job never mind do it!
