Hi all.

Do any of you guys fit boilers without a temp stat in place?

3 people I know have had fairly new boilers without any temp controls fitted just mechanical clocks.

Depends what else they might have. Trouble with a single stat is finding the right place to put it, too cold a room and the heating's on for longer than it needs, too hot and the rest of the place gets cold once that room is satisfied. Did the boilers concerned have rads with TRVs? or even weather compensation which a lot of boilers offer these days. Makes having a central stat less relevant.
Personally, at home I've got about half my rads with TRVs and a Coster digital chronostat at the top of the stairs (where the original room stat was). Got to replace a couple more rads sometime and get rid of the twin entry valves and fit a few more TRVs, then I can just have the stat for high limit and leave the room temp control to the TRVs.

no always fit a stat, the reason people dont is the price

I knew price would be a factor but surely the boilers life expectancy is dramatically reduced when done this way?

yes and no, it would go off the flow/return temps and the clock

So basically if the dial is set to 50c as an example, once the flow is at the temp the boiler would shut down?

no the return temp/might not turn off :D

So you don't think it would reduce the boilers life span being operated like that?

cant really say it meets building regs if there is no interlock and for a few quid why bodge a job
