Had me tearing my ****ing hair out today this! Im not the best on the wiring side as it is especially when some **** has been before me and wired it in like a school boy!

Went to a breakdown today, no heating no hot water. Figured the diverter actuator was knackered! Fits a new one wired in the same switches it on for heating/hot water all fine! Switches the room stat off and clock over to water only and nothing! Checks the cylinder stat, common to 1 common to 2 for continuity etc all fine! Goes back over my wiring making sure it was ok still nothing! Changes the randal 102 still the same so now I'm getting ****ed! Turns the heating/hot water back on and it's all working! This time I never turned the room stat down and switched the clock over to hot water and the bloody thing worked!

So it turned out the system had been wired in so the room stat had to be turned up for the hot water to work! Then I thought about the cylinder overheating, so I tested the cylinder stat turns that down and the system stopped! So both cylinder stat and room stat controlled the hot water! Going to have to go back tomorrow to re wire it from scratch!

Anyone any ideas as to what the hell they have done here cause I couldnt figure it out!

DIY home effort job at a guess , when there like that I tell them straight it's all out were starting again or your ringing someone else

As above, try to use all the same manufacture clock Diverter. Makes wiring easier.

Probably not a DIY effort I have seen plenty of badly wired Y and S plans from time served sparks

I know a sparky who always wires the white and grey together so when the HTG comes on DHW goes off but he wont listen to me as i'm just a plumber.

Thank god not him doing them now we have another spark who walks around asleep all the time but he does a proper job

I'm having to rewire these all the time where I work because they've been done wrong. quite enjoy doing them now.

Still don't see how that means the room stat had to be on. 2 is neutral 3 is boiler and pump on and 1 is the feed from the clock. The Voltage for the cylinder stat passes thought terminal 6 and returns to 7( boiler and pump on). So a voltage from either stat would tell the boiler to fire!

I HATE WIRES!

It's not worth trying to trace wiring faults like this. You'll spend ages and get nowhere. Just disconnect everything and start again.

Agree with MJ on this one :) just got the honeywell wiring app on the iphone its a godsend for people like me who dont really get to see it much on my patch

No access Friday afternoon will be some point next week, think i am just going to start from scratch. Thinking about it Friday afternoon I reckon hw on and Ht on from the clock have both been wired through the room stat so I reckon I'll have to bring a new wire from the clock for hw on.

Hi, Later this year I am going away for a 2 week holiday and as the weather will be warm there is no need for the heating to be on and arguably no need for me to needlessly heat hot water. My intention was to turn the boiler off along with the mains water when going away. Now, I have heard...

Ideal Logic 24, Previous problem was that the hot water was only cold or barely warm if the heating was in use. If heating was off and boiler cold then would get hot water most of the time. Changing the flow cartridge about 2 years ago (when I moved in) solved this problem enough to suffer it as...

Hello plumbers in my internet. So the Mrs want a spray mixer tap in the kitchen as we had two separate taps. I changed the tap for a temporary two hole mixer but the cold water pressure is high mains fed and the hot is low pressure immersion tank fed. I've been trying to find info on what I...

Every two weeks or so I have to go and top up the system because the hot taps are running cold. Boiler display is flashing 0.6 bar and I fill up to 1.3. I've had an engineer look inside the boiler and he can't see anything wrong. I've checked the pipes all over the house and cannot see any...

Hi, I seemed to have a blockage in kitchen sink. A plumber came and cleared all the pipework that is visible inside my home (there was debris and pebbles!) We saw that the pipe that takes water down the gutter was visibly full to the top. He said he will return with a coil to push through...
