My bedroom radiator has a Belmont Pegler thermostatic valve with a chrome 'Button' on the top. It is about 12 years old. If I leave the radiator on, after 45 minutes or so I start to hear a bit of a whine which builds up and then a few moments later I get a horrible vibration which sounds like a banging noise.
I turn the valve to zero and it stops, but my room goes cold.

I've tried bleeding it and draining it, allowing it to fill back up again but I still have the problem. Also, if I press the button on the top, the noise stops for a few seconds but quickly comes back. The button does feel a bit stiff.

I don't have this problem with any other radiator.
Can anyone tell me what is causing it and how I can fix it please?

sounds like the thermostat is on the way out and needs replacing.

welcome to the forums.

Does sound like a TRV to replace suppose its trying to demonstrate it needs a birthday before the2012 olympics. Turning it to '0' stops the flow through the rad.
BRRRRRR..! keep warm
