I am looking for a plumber who can do a final inspection in the Boston, MA area. The work is already complete. I will be happy to pay for their time. I have called several local plumbers, but all seem unwilling to do do the inspection on someone else's work, so I am hoping someone on this forum may have a suggestion.

I feel a brief explanation is due. We had an addition put on our house. Unfortunately, the contractor vanished with the job 80% complete including all plumbing, but with 95% of our balance to him paid. He left several subs including the plumber unpaid. We now finally have the all the other work complete after considerable extra expense and anguish and now need final inspections. I have talked to the original plumber and he is unwilling to do the final inspection unless I pay him what he is owed by the contractor. That would effectively mean that I would be paying for the work twice. I talked with the inspectors office and they can transfer the existing plumbing permit to a new plumber. However, it must be a licensed plumber. Now I just need to find one...

It isn't just a question of paying for their time.

Most licenced contractors wouldn't sign off somebody elses work as he (usually) does not want a call back in a month or jeopordise his licence.

To summarise.

You're trying to shaft the original guy because of your poor financial management of the project?

Tradesmen talk to each other, so I would very much doubt that you will find somebody.

Pay the bloke and get your inspection. Lifes too short.
